Enhanced ACT

The Enhanced ACT, released in September 2025, contains fewer questions per section, allowing slightly more time per question. The test is now offered in both paper and online formats, and the Science section is now optional (and not included in the composite score, but rather as a separate STEM score along with Math). The test is approximately 2 hours and 5 minutes long without the Science section, and 2 hours and 45 minutes long with it.

ACT v. SAT: How to decide?!

When taking their PreACT, some students prefer the format of this test. Other students may take a diagnostic of each before tutoring begins to decide. If the Science and Writing sections are omitted, the ACT may be slightly shorter than the SAT. ACT Math tests pre-calc concepts (for example: matrices, asymptotes, logs) that the SAT doesn't cover, but ACT Math questions tend to be quicker to solve and more straightforward as compared to SAT questions. Students may prefer the "quicker pace" of the Math section on the ACT, as long as they have familiarity with the higher-level topics. Some students feel that the ACT Reading section, while longer and more dense, has a more direct question style than the SAT, which is more inference-heavy. Additionally, some students prefer to be able to take the test on paper, which the SAT no longer offers.
